Article Abstract:
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) appointed Paul Pacter, a veteran standard-setter and partner at Deloitte, Hong Kong in July 2003 to write single-handedly a simplified version of existing IFRS for non-listed small and medium-size companies (SMEs). At the end of January 2006, the working group chaired by Pacter and supported by 34 other experts met to discuss the cut-down standards, but several technical issues remained unresolved, however, the UK's interest in the SME project is particularly intense.

An elegant move?
Article Abstract:
A review of the way the world standard-setter, the IASB operates, was completed by the trustees of the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation (IASCF), headed by former Federal Reserve chairman, Paul Volcker. The most significant outcome of the review is that Volcker and his board of IASCF trustees have decided to reform the Standards Advisory Council, the international council that was set up to keep the IASB in touch with economic reality.
