Treasury software: upgrading your foreign exchange management systems
Article Abstract:
Foreign exchange rates affect the profitability of companies operating in foreign countries; to protect against such risk, treasurers must stay abreast of current events affecting foreign exchange rates, acquire software programs that help analyze the effect of foreign exchange rates on the company's operations, and develop trading methods that permit fast execution of foreign currency transactions. For $19.95 per month, treasurers can subscribe to Xpress Information Services' foreign currency exchange quotation service, which provides market quotes to the home, using personal computers and cable television. A listing of eight foreign exchange management software products, their capabilities, prices, and makers, is included.

The Intel 80386 promises a technological breakthrough
Article Abstract:
Microprocessor terminology and microchip technology basics are explained for the corporate treasurer interested in assessing operations needs in terms of microcomputer hardware available on the market. The introduction of the Intel 80386 microchip is changing the microcomputer market. The IBM PC uses an Intel 8088 chip and the IBM AT uses an Intel 80286 chip. Apple Macintosh PCs use Motorola 68000 and 60820 chips. The 80386 chip will offer greater speed, more memory, and enhanced versatility over these other chips. The 80386 has a new architecture which allows it to operate like a minicomputer. The three operating modes of the 80386 are discussed: real mode, protected mode, and virtual mode.
