Triggers, templates and twitches in the tracking of emerging strategic issues
Article Abstract:
The shifts of cognitive frames of reference in the environmental tracking of emerging strategic issues are examined by investigating group tracking of potential applications and markets for a new technology. The derivation and operationalization of the concepts of templates, triggers, and twitches are used to examine the dynamics of shifts in the frame of reference. Results suggest that examining shifts in frame of reference can be more informative than examining the frames themselves.

Selecting tactics to implement strategic plans
Article Abstract:
Managers often undermine their strategic planning by implementing the plan indiscriminately. A method for selecting among tactics based on a contingency framework using situational constraints is described. The tactics suggested by the framework had a 94% success rate while non-recommended tactics had a 29% success rate.
