US biosecurity advisory board faces delicate balancing act
Article Abstract:
Members of the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB), who convened for the first time in June 2005, reiterated the need for balance in dealing with the issue of the dual use of technology or risk draconian regulatory schemes. The NSABB members are seeking to guard against abuses by bioterorrists of legitimate biotechnology activities without forfeiting freedom to pursue research, publish findings and develop products.

FDA plans to improve and accelerate product reviews
Article Abstract:
The officials of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an effort to accelerate products into and through the drug regulatory system to focus on modernizing the tools that applied biomedical researchers and product developers use to assess the safety of the potential new products. The FDA work depends on redirected funds, as it is unlikely to have new resources for new research programs.

Fake biotech drugs raise concerns
Article Abstract:
During the first half of 2001, several biotechnology companies were the victims of drug counterfeiters. Companies are paying a price for this, and consumers may not be getting the best products.
