U.S. coupon market shows turnaround
Article Abstract:
Packaged goods marketers circulated about 249 billion coupons in 1998, as monitored by NCH NuWorld Marketing Limited. The coupon processing firm also reports that marketers maintained the redemption attractiveness of the coupon incentives at compressed levels, although average face value improved slightly to $0.702 from $0.679, while the overall value redeemed increased by $0.01 from year-ago to reach $0.76, as consumers continue to pursue coupons offering the highest savings. While total redemption decreased by 2% to reach 4.8 billion coupons, a total of $3.6 billion in savings were realized by consumers using coupons in 1998, nearly the same as in 1996 and 1997.
