US interest rates: whoops of joy
Article Abstract:
US interest rates have been lowered by 0.25% by the Federal Reserve. Tight monetary policy appears to have tackled the threat of inflation and short-term interest rates could fall all over the world. A correction in the middle of the business cycle appears more likely than the threat of recession in the US economy. The economy could return to non-inflationary growth following the pause in mid-1995, and interest rates could be cut further if this optimistic view proves correct.

A late Christmas present from the Fed
Article Abstract:
US interest rates may be reduced in Dec 1998 despite the strong economy and employment levels. The money supply and consumer spending are also increasing. A drop in exports could bring an economic slowdown in 1999, which could hit employment and consumption. Inflation does not appear likely to rise, so interest rates may fall as the economic performance slows down.
