Uncertain balance
Article Abstract:
Financial institutions, standard setters and valuators have struggled to adapt with the increasing development of new and more complex financial instruments. In an attempt to address the problem, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) and CICA have proposed a two-phased framework that aims to standardize the disclosure and presentation of financial statements. However, experts expressed strong objection to the framework, citing it as a cumbersome, perplexing and expensive alternative. Other models have also been proposed, including the adoption of separate frameworks for large and small/medium business enterprises.
