Uncertainty in the transaction environment: an empirical test

Article Abstract:

The absence of any definite conclusion regarding the relationship between uncertainty and vertical integration prompted the undertaking of a study clarifying this enigma. This research introduced three different types of uncertainty: primary, competitive and supplier. Using a randomized experimental design, the hypotheses, which posit that each of the three distinct forms has an impact on vertical integration, were tested on 308 managers. Findings revealed that primary and competitive uncertainty had a negative relationship with the decision to vertically integrate while supplier uncertainty was positively linked to the decision. Finally, no interaction effects were discovered among the three forms of uncertainty. Implications are discussed.

A meta-analysis on the comparative effectiveness of devil's advocacy and dialectical inquiry

Article Abstract:

The use and efficiency of meta-analysis as a means of reviewing past research is explored. Meta-analysis is used to compare the efficacy of the conflict-based decision-making processes of devil's advocacy and dialectical inquiry. Results indicate that decision making is improved by the use of devil's advocacy or dialectical inquiry when the assumptions of an expert's report are incorrect, however neither method was proven to be superior to another.
