The cost of gaining new business from an existing client is much lower than winning a brand new client, yet many accountancy firms devote huge energies to wooing prospective clients while missing new business opportunities with their existing client base. Often, client relationships in accountancy practices are built around the personalities of two key people-one from the client, one from the accountancy practice.

Dispelling some myths
Article Abstract:
Practice Assurance (PA) due to start in 2005 heralds visits from the Quality Assurance Directorate of ICAEW but there is little to worry about for firms who already provide quality client service for a reasonable fee. The PA scheme is not prescriptive and as such, firms will need to make minimal changes to their existing practices but some concerns remain and these are to be addressed.
