Value for money stockbrokers
Article Abstract:
Stockbrokers have had problems with the Stock Exchange since it began to deal with share settlement electronically. Computer problems have also forced Fidelity to close its stockbroking service. Investors who hold paper shares will find that deals take longer than for electronic settlement. Three options are open to investors. Those who rarely buy or sell can retain paper shares but those who deal often could get a nominee account which their stockbroker manages or they can become a sponsored member of Crest.

Tough times ahead
Article Abstract:
Walker, Crips, Weddle and Beck is a stockbroker which performed well in 1998 but the company is likely to be hit by a drop in trading activity and in funds under management. The company has roots dating back to 1914 and its long-term performance is good, but competition in the market is increasing, especially since Halifax has entered the market. The company also faces a reduction in investment levels qualifying for tax benefits for UK savers, which could affect commissions.
