Vitkovice sees a loss

Vitkovice (Ostrava, Czech Republic), engineering and metallurgy firm, expects a loss of CEK 280 mil in 2001 compared to a loss of CEK 9.023 bil in 2000. A reason for the 2000 loss was the formation of rectifying items and reserves. The firm's rectifying items were CEK 5.592 bil in 2000. In 1999 Vitkovice saw a loss of CEK 10.433 bil. Vitkovice expects an operating profit of CEK 525 mil in 2001 compared to an operating loss of CEK 1.05 bil in 2000 and an operating loss of CEK 8.622 bil in 1999. It saw outputs of CEK 10.4 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 11.644 bil in 1999. The firm started its restructuring in Apr 2000. It has dismissed nearly 5,300 employees since the start of the restructuring. Originally, the firm had nearly 12,000 employees.

The firm expects a total loss of CEK 8 bil for 2000, having seen a loss of CEK 10.4 bil in 1999. Vitkovice has high debts. The court approved the firm's settlement with creditors in the autumn of 2000. Nova hut (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy firm, saw a profit of CEK 46 mil and an operating profit of CEK 884 mil in 2000. The firm's outputs amounted to more than CEK 29 bil in 2000.

Vitkovice is awarded ship contracts
Article Abstract:
Vitkovice (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy and engineering firm, was awarded two ship contracts worth CEK 350 mil at the beginning of May 2001. On the basis of the contracts, Vitkovice will supply six ship rudder sets to Odense Lindoe (Denmark) and two stern rollers to the shipyard Volkswerft Stralsund (Germany). The contracts will be realized from Feb 2002 by Jul 2003.
