Wait Not, Want Not
Article Abstract:
By planning well in advance and taking advantage of a child's lower rate of taxation, a parent can start accumulating money for a child's college education as soon as that child is born, and take some of the pain out of paying later. Such measures as the Uniform Gifts to Minors, or investment in secure, conservative holdings (such as zero-coupon corporate bonds) are ideal for parents looking for a way to provide future college income for their children. Clifford Trusts, or Crown Loans are other methods utilized to transfer earnings to a child to be taxed at preferential or zero rates. Although too much planning ahead may cost a child some financial aid, pre-planning for an expensive college education utilizing a child's tax advantage should be considered a must for anyone with a tax liability.
