Wall Street's reaction to listing of the northern spotted owl
Article Abstract:
The listing of the northern spotted owl as an endangered species resulted in greater financial returns on private timberland in the Pacific Northwest. However, the listing only had a modest impact on the quantity of timber supply. The creation and study of environmental policies need to take into account several factors such as the projected impact on the financial performance of the industry. Regulators can use stock prices when studying welfare effects on certain stakeholder groups.
