When it pays to be outward-looking
Article Abstract:
Vertical integration has been replaced by outsourcing as the conventional wisdom. Cost reductions and increased flexibility can be gained from outsourcing. Other benefits include maintenance of skill levels which is easier for professionals working for more than one firm. Staff motivation is enhanced if jobs are seen as core. Risk levels drop as the number of employees falls. Legal liability for employees, and measures to protect employees in Europe have led to less inclination to employ people.

Wall Street fruit pickers make juicy profits
Article Abstract:
Companies are following a new trend of splitting up, which has replaced the previous trend that they should diversify. Dun and Bradstreet is the latest of a number of companies to follow this trend. The stock market has reacted well to disposals, spin-offs and break-ups and the trend has been portrayed as the division of a tangerine. Advisers are paid large fees for helping with these transactions so it is likely that more are being advised in the US.
