When two heads are better than one
Article Abstract:
Two people at the head of a company can be a powerful force as is shown by a number of examples in UK businesses. Gordon White and James Hanson have been successful at the head of Hanson which they turned into a multinational. Ann Gloag and Brian Souter are a sister and brother team who have built up Stagecoach. The success of such partnerships depends on personalities as well as whether the skill mix is adequate. Such partnerships can prosper because there is another person with whom to talkabout business ideas.

Six keys to unlocking a higher share price
Article Abstract:
Companies used to become acquisition targets if they performed poorly, but they are increasingly taking action themselves to remedy stock price falls. These are demerging unrelated divisions, improving the company's focus, freeing rapidly expanding divisoons, asset sales, encouraging bidders to carry out a break-up, and bringing in a new chief executive who is trusted by investors.
