Article Abstract:
Canadian chartered accountants are finding it easier to market their skills abroad as a result of the accelerated growth of the global economy. Given the many benefits that can be had by working in foreign lands, it is no wonder that many are opting to use their skills in other countries. However, these professionals should be ready to face the challenges involved in employment in foreign countries. They should realize that their professional qualifications are not automatically transferable in other countries and that foreign-work arrangements require many qualifying conditions.

Chartered accountants who have not yet documented their retirement plans should use their exceptional skills at financial planning to effect a retirement worthy of their skills. The basis of retirement planning is a concrete idea of the retirement lifestyle and a calculation of resources to support such a lifestyle. Retirement planning then takes the form of investment optimization which will ensure that the present investments can act as resources for retirement.
