Youth support troops
Article Abstract:
The Washington, DC-based Stars and Stripes provides daily news to military personnel and their families overseas. Conversations with several NIE managers around the US revealed a strong interest in the establishment of a link between stateside classrooms and the military overseas. It therefore created Operation Holiday Care Card Programme to furnish holiday cards and letters to troops deployed in remote regions and to involve NIE programmed and classrooms in the US with the card writing campaign for both soldiers and Defense Dept Dependent School students. The program elicited a tremendous response, especially from youth, in a remarkably short period of time.

Early delivery good choice
Article Abstract:
Informal and formal research on the readership of Springfield, IL-based newspaper The State Journal-Register found that the primary reason people gave for not reading the paper was lack of time. Further investigation showed that most readers wanted the newspaper in the morning when they got up. The Journal-Register thus organized a strategy to ensure delivery of the newspaper by 6:00 am, including an incentive program for both youth and adult carriers. Feedback from subscribers six months after the new delivery schedule was implemented has been gratifying.
