Zinc prospects
Article Abstract:
Reunion Mining has large zinc deposits which should be cheap to mine at the company's Skorpion mine in Namibia. Refining could be carried out on site due to the qualities of the ore. Prices in the zinc industry have dropped due to an oversupply, but mine closure and lower production levels should lead to a rise in prices over the long term, with some revival from 1999 to 2000. Anglo American holds a 40% stake in Reunion, and has to decide whether to retain this. Reunion also hace mines in Zambia and elsewhere.

Ivernia West
Article Abstract:
Ivernia West is a zinc miner with a 50% stake in the Irish Lisheen zinc deposit. The company has won a legal dispute with Lac Minerals relating to this deposit, and will seek planning permission to commence mining. The cost of bronging Lisheen into production is estimated at $160 million. Changes in the price of zinc will have a major impact on Ivernia's performance. The company has support from Minorco, its partner, for this venture. Ivernia shares are seen as representing good value in Oct 1995.

Skorpion makes for a happy reunion
Article Abstract:
Reunion has had good results at its Skorpion mine in Namibia and this could lead to a doubling of the company's share price. The mine could yield 900,000 tonnes of zinc and Reunion has an option of more than 60% for Skorpion, with Anglo American holding the remainder. A pre-feasibility study has to be carried out on the mine, and between $150 million and $200 million will be needed for the mine to be brought into production, though Skorpion's costs are likely to be low.
