A plan to merge the London and Frankfurt stock exchanges is likely to be announced, and could help to cut trading costs, which can be ten times as in Europe compared with the US. Elsewhere in Europe, the Brussels. Amsterdam and Paris exchanges are to merge. The London exchange has already decided that it will cease to hold mutual status. London has remained strong as a financial center despite the introduction of the single European currency, the euro.
