A kinetic study of cytochrome c adsorption to hydrophilic glass by broad-band, time-resolved optical waveguide spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The outstanding applicability of the improved optical waveguide (OWG) spectrometer for characterizing interfacial behaviors of hemoproteins is demonstrated. The findings state that the adsorption and desorption processes of horse heart cytochrome c obey the Langmuir isotherm, from which the adsorption and desorption rate constants as well as the adsorption free energy of the protein were obtained.

Fabrication of ordered mesoporous thin films for optical waveguiding and interferometric chemical sensing
Article Abstract:
Planar optical waveguides with a propagation loss of 2.9 dB/cm at 633 nm are fabricated by using ordered mesoporous thin films of Ti[O.sub.2]-[P.sub.2][O.sub.5] nanocomposite deposited on the tin-rich surfaces of float glass slides. It is shown that there was substantial sensitivity to parts-per-million level ammonia gas at room temperature on the basis of single-beam polarimetric interferometry.

Characterization of gold nanoparticles synthesized using sucrose by seeding formation in the solid phase and seeding growth in aqueous solution
Article Abstract:
A novel chemical method has been developed for synthesizing Au nanoparticles using sucrose as the raw material based on gold seeding formation in the solid phase and seeding growth in aqueous solution. The results indicate that the synthesized gold nanoparticles can be used to self-assemble monolayers and to fabricate biochemical sensors based on surface plasmon resonance effect.
