A new interpretation of anomalous properties of water based on Stillinger's postulate
Article Abstract:
Stillinger's postulate, which states that the formation of bulky clathrate-like local structures is the main cause of the anomalous thermodynamic and transport properties exhibited by liquid water at low temperatures, is used for making an attempt to interpret the anomalous properties of supercooled water in a unified way. It can be concluded that the diverging trends of various anomalous properties with lowering temperature are preserved up to high pressures due to the premature ice crystallization, which conceals the expected extrema of thermodynamic properties from observation.

Nanometer-size monolayer and multilayer molecule corrals on HOPG: a depth resolved mechanistic study by STM
Article Abstract:
The production of monolayer and multilayer pits on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite bombarded with energetic Cs(super +) ions is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The result reveals that the growth layer for monolayer and multilayer pits decreases with increasing pit density and increase with increasing depth up to four or five layers and then levels off and is essentially the same for all deeper pits.
