Adsorption and diffusion of single molecules at chromatographic interfaces
Article Abstract:
The contributions of single molecule spectroscopy to the understanding of an important problem in chromatography are detailed. These single molecule experiments provide important new information about the so called 'active silanols' that cause tailing to persist at low pH, revealing that these sites are neutral and that surface topography plays a role.

NMR and computational studies of chiral discrimination by amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)
Article Abstract:
Proton NMR and simulations are combined to examine the origin of chiral selectivity by a polysaccharide used in a commercial chromatographic stationary phase: amylase tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate). 2D NOESY spectra showed which protons of each enantiomer and the polysaccharide were in proximity, and revealed folding of the L-enantiomer.

Single-molecule study of an adsorbed oligonucleotide undergoing both lateral diffusion and strong adsorption
Article Abstract:
Single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy was used to probe the lateral transport of an adsorbed oligonucleotide, the SP6 promoter primer, which is a 24-mer labeled at the 5'end with tetramethylrhodamine. Oligonucleotides captured by this surface would undergo fast diffusion that would facilitate hybridization.
