An X-ray absorption study of two VOCl(sub 3)-modified silicas: Evidence for chloride-silica interactions

Article Abstract:

The structures of the sites formed in the gas-solid reactions of VOCl(sub 3) with the surfaces of fumed silica and a silica gel were investigated by using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. It was fond that grafting VOCl(sub 3) at ambient temperature onto the surface of an n aerosil yields a material whose vanadium sites are both isolated and uniform, regardless of the extent of surface hydroxylation.

Comparative study of guest-charge interactions with silica sol-gel

Article Abstract:

The influence of charge-charge interactions on the molecular mobility of guest molecules trapped within the silica sol-gel host is demonstrated using charged dye molecules as probes. According to the results, an attractive charge does not contribute significantly to mobility within dry films and also an increase in the cationic influence is observed in water-equilibrated environments.

Photophysical and photochemical processes of 2-Methyl, 2-Ethyl, and 2-tert-Butylanthracenes on silica gel. A substituent effect study

Article Abstract:

The photophysics and photochemistry of 2-methylanthracene (2MA), 2-ethylanthracene (2EA), and 2-tert- butylanthracene (2TBA) adsorbed on silica is studied at a silica/air interface to determine the substituent effect on the above processes. The decrease in photolysis rate is due to lowering of the singlet oxygen quantum yield in the presence of physisorbed water is suggested.
