Association of methanol and water in ionic liquids elucidated by infrared spectroscopy using two-dimensional correlation and multivariate curve resolution
Article Abstract:
The behavior of water and methanol dissolved in several 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) at different cosolvent concentrations is studied to elucidate the possible structure of the interaction water/methanol-IL. The infrared (IR) region of the OH stretching vibrations is analyzed by two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCoS) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS).

Probing intermolecular interactions in water/ionic liquid mixtures by far-infrared spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
Far-infrared spectra of two hydrophilic and one hydrophobic ionic liquid and their mixtures with water at different concentrations are described. The results have shown no formation of water dimers in the hydrophobic ionic liquid and no spectral contribution of the stretching of H-bonds between water molecules and P[F.sub.6.sup.-], thus indicating an extremely weak interaction between water molecules and this anion.

HCl solvation at the surface and within methanol clusters/nanoparticles II: Evidence for molecular wires
Article Abstract:
An investigation on the condensed-phase solvation of HCl on and within methanol nanoparticles is conducted by Fourier transform infrared and ab initio calculations. Adsorption and solvation stages are identified and assigned with the help of calculated infrared spectra obtained from the simulations.
