Behavior of ionically charged lamellar systems under the influence of a shear field
Article Abstract:
The effect of a shear field on differently charge bilayers was examined with the use of various methods. These included rheology, anisotropy of the electrical conductivity, freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy, and small-angle neutron scattering. Results showed that the charge density is controlled by the amount of cationic surfactant present in a mixture of a nonionic surfactant where the mixture was always at a constant concentration of 100 mM. The results also indicated that shearing would be an excellent method for controlling vesicle morphology.

Behavior of a charged vesicle system under the influence of a shear gradient: a microstructural study
Article Abstract:
A study was undertaken to determine the effect of shear on charged vesicles by using rheology, electron microscopy, electrical conductivity and small-angle neutron scattering. Vesicles are important in the field of surfactant science and these vesicles may be present in varied states such as unilamellar and multilamellar vesicles. Results revealed that the increase in shear rate resulted to the decrease in vesicle size and that the formed minute unilamellar vesicles were observed to be stable and did not revert from the relaxation state to the original state.

Novel vesicles from single-chain surfactants
Article Abstract:
The production of charged vesicle phases without the use of cosurfactants is done. The vesicle phases are produced by mixing micellar solutions of alkyldimethylaminoxide and the Ca salt of dodecyl sulfate. Normal micellar L(sub 1)-phases are noted in both surfactants. The samples are prepared by mixing a 100 mM solution of C(sub14)DMAO with a 50mM solution of Ca(DS)(sub 2). Highly synergistic behavior is shown by the two single-chain surfactants which is reflected in a minimum of the surface and the interfacial tension with an increasing mole fraction of DS.
