Bending and radial deformation of lipid tubules on self-assembled thiol monolayers
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that the lipid tubules of 1,2-bis(tricosa-10,12-diynoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine could be bent into a looplike shape by shrinking contact line of droplets on self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 1-dodecanethiol. An examination of the radial deformation of the lipid tubules on SAMS under applied load using atomic force microscope revealed that the stiffness of the tubules in the radical direction increased when the number of the lipid bilayers in the tubule was increased.

Methanethiolate adsorption site on Au(111): A combined STM/DFT study at the single/molecule level
Article Abstract:
An investigation on the chemisorptive bonding of methanethiolate (CH3S) on the Au(111) surface is conducted at a single-molecule level using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-SM) and density functional theory (DFT). Results reveal that the S-headgroup of chemisorbed CH3S adsorbs on the 2-fold coordinated bridge site between two Au atoms, consistent with theoretical predictions for CH3S on the nondefective Au(111) surface.

Nondissociative chemisorption of short chain alkanethiols on Au(111)
Article Abstract:
Temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-STM) are used to study the adsorption of methanethiol and n-propanethiol on the Au(111) surface. Methanethiol and n-propanethiol adsorb without S-H bond scission on the defect-free Au(111) surface however on an Au(111) surface purposely made defective, strong evidence for S-H bond scission is found.
