Structure of active phases during the course of electrocatalytic reactions
Article Abstract:
It is possible to obtain detailed structural information on long-range ordered active phases during the course of electrocatalytic reactions by using surface X-ray scattering techniques. The same approach can be extended to a range of catalytic systems.

Bromide adsorption induced formation of thallium bromide adlayers with varying composition and structure on the Au(111) electrode surface
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the underpotential deposition of thallium on Au(111) in a HClO4 solution using cyclic voltammetry, in situ X-ray scattering and rotating disk-ring methods. The solutions were determined from Tl2Co2, KBr, HClO4 and Millipore QC UV Plus water. Experimental results indicated that increases in the underpotential deposition shift were similar tot he shift observed for the underpotential deposition of copper on Au(111) supporting coadsorbed bromine.

Configuration and site of O2 adsorption on the Pt(111) electrode surface
Article Abstract:
The inhibition of O2 reduction on a Pt(111) electrode surface with Ag adatoms has been studied to gain insight on the type of O2 adsorption during the reaction. Oxygen adsorbs in molecular form at low temperatures while dissocative adsorption on platinum metal groups occurs between 150 to 300 K. Results indicate adsorption of O2 on Pt(111) electrode surface probably occurs at a bridge site with an O2 molecule oriented flat between two Pt atoms. This suggests a dissociation of the oxygen-oxygen bond precedes 4e-reduction.
