Computer studies on the effects of long chain alcohols on sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) molecules in SDS/dodecanol and SDS/hexadecanol monolayers at the air/water interface

Article Abstract:

Molecular dynamics simulations of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/dodecanol and SDS/hexadecanol monolayers at the air/water interface are investigated where the monolayer mixtures are formed by two different configurations. By increasing the alcohol chain length, the order and thickness of the SDS tails increased when those molecules are placed all together in a region of the surface area and when both surfactants are well mixed, the order and thickness of the SDS chains decreased as the alcohol chain length increased.

ESPT of 2-(2'-pyridyl)benzimidazole at the micelle-water interface: Selective enhancement and slow dynamics with sodium dodecyl sulfate

Article Abstract:

The effect of micellar environment on the excited state p5roton transfer (ESPT) of 2-(2'-pyridyl )benzimidazole (2PBI) is investigated by steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Three factors namely diffusion controlled protonation of the normal form of 2PBI, slow and possibly incomplete solvation of the transition state, leading to a slowing down of the proton transfer process and a similar slow dynamics of the tautomeric excited state is explored.

Salt effects on solute exchange and micelle fission in sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles below the micelle-to-rod transition

Article Abstract:

The micelle exchange kinetics of hydrophobic pyrene derivatives between sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and micelles are described in the presence of moderate concentrations of sodium counterions. The exchange rate is not very sensitive to the concentration of SDS micelles, except as the SDS concentration affects the ionic strength, which indicates that the kinetics are dominated by a first-order process.
