Determination of a hydroxyl conformation in aqueous xylose using neutron scattering and molecular dynamics
Article Abstract:
A study showed that in an aqueous solution of D-xylose, the hydroxyl group on the C4 position does not significantly occupy the position trans to the H4 atom, using a combination of neutron diffraction with isotopic substitutions (NDIS) and molecular dynamics (MD). The same combination of studies was used to describe that D-xylose deuterated at the C5 position to characterize the hydroxyl conformation as being trans to the C5 atom, which confirmed the results of the first study.

Molecular view of water dynamics near model peptides
Article Abstract:
Quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) is used to measure the dynamics of water molecules in solution of a model protein backbone, N-acetyl-glycine-methyamide (NAGMA), as a function of concentration. It is seen that the high solute concentration are unique in measuring a single hydration layer at the peptide surface.

Dynamics of water molecules in glucose solutions
Article Abstract:
The effects of the solution of glucose molecules on the dynamics of solvent water are examined. The quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) measurements on solutions of selectively deuterated glucose in natural water are discussed.
