Deuterium isotope effects on the interaction between hyperbranched polyethylene imine and an anionic surfactant
Article Abstract:
Potentiometric titration and eletrophoretic mobility measurements are used to investigate the solvent isotope effects on the interaction between the hyperbranched cationic polyelectrolyte, polyethylene, imine (PEI), and the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). A significantly higher fraction of the amine groups is found to be protonated when the PEI is dissolved in D2O compared to H2O at the same pH/pD.

Synthesis and self-assembly of an amphiphilic poly(phenylene ethynylene) ionomer
Article Abstract:
A conjugated amphiphilic polyelectrolyte, a poly(phenylene ethylene) (PPE), and the structurally analogous neutral polymer are synthesized. It is concluded on the basis of a combination of absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering that the solution-phase aggregation of the uncharged PPE could be reversibly controlled by varying the solvent polarity and concentration.

Effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate in adsorbed layers of branched polyethylene imine
Article Abstract:
The effect of anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on the properties of adsorbed layers of a cationic highly branched polyelectrolyte, polyethylene imine (PEI) is investigated. The surface force and atomic force techniques are employed to elucidate the association between preadsorbed PEI and SDS on negatively charged surfaces.
