Dynamics of beta-carotene-to-chlorophyll singlet energy transfer in the core of photosystem II

Article Abstract:

The femtosecond transient absorption study of the isolated subcomplexes of the core of photosystem II following beta-carotene excitation, shows that mainly the beta-carotene S2(1Bu (super +)) state is involved in the energy- transfer process. The absence of energy transfer from S1 states to other subcomplexes explains the low overall yield of beta-carotene-to-chlorophyll singlet energy transfer in the PSII core.

Free energy of transfer of a solute and its relation to the partition constant

Article Abstract:

Experimental evidence, based on the data from the literature, indicating that the unit molar concentration scale is close to the correct standard state is presented. The importance for prediction of equilibrium partioning from the respective free energies of interaction as well as for a consistent thermodynamic interpretation of equilibrium partitions constants is shown.

Article Abstract:

Single molecule photoemission statistics are calculated with a nanosecond time resolution for a pair of dye molecules attached to a DNA molecule and undergoing fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET). The findings establish potentially useful guidelines for the choice of FRET pairs for the experimental study of specific systems.
