Effect of chain length on the structure of monolayers of alkyltrimethylammonium bromides (CnTABS) at the air-water interface
Article Abstract:
Experiments were performed to investigate the sum-frequency spectra of the monolayers of alkyltrimethylammonium bromides (CH3(CH2)(sub n-1)N+(CH3)3Br-, CnTAB, n = 12, 14, 16 and 18). The monolayers exhibited a constant area per molecule of 44 plus or equal to 2 angstroms 2,5,6,7. No relationship was established between monolayer thickness and chain length. Structural profiles of the sum-frequency spectroscopic analyses and ellipsometry were congruent with the findings of previous studies using neutron reflection.

Phase transitions in mixed monolayers of sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecanol at the air/water interface
Article Abstract:
Ellipsometry and sum-frequency spectroscopy experiments were performed to investigate the phase transitions in mixed monolayers of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecanol. Changes in the composition and structure in SDS and dodecanol were also examined. The findings demonstrate a disorganized high-temperature monolayer phase than the corresponding liquid phase. Equimolar amounts of the samples were found in the solid phase, while SDS and dodecanol in a ratio of 3:2 were found in the liquid phase.

Sum-frequency spectroscopy of surfactant monolayers at the oil-water interface
Article Abstract:
The first vibrational spectra of surfactant monolayers at the bulk oil-water interface are obtained by sum-frequency spectroscopy (SFS). The question of how the structure of surfactant monolayers at the oil-water differs from that at the air-water or solid-water interface is discussed.
