Effective macroion charge and stability of highly asymmetric electrolytes at various salt conditions

Article Abstract:

Electrostatic mechanisms of the destabilization of highly asymmetric electrolytes were studied by performing primitive model Monte Carlo simulations of charged macroions immersed in multivalent salt solution. It was observed that at low salt concentration, the macroion effective charge is reduced due to multivalent counterion adsorption, whereas at high salt concentrations, macroions become overcharged, while the system remains stable at low as well as at very high salt concentrations.

Aggregation in a protein-surfactant system. The interplay between hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions

Article Abstract:

The colloidal forces controlling the stability of the solution are manifested in an oppositely charged protein-surfactant system. A combination of hydrophobic interaction between hydrophobic patches on the protein surface and the surfactant hydrocarbon chain, and a composition-dependent electrostatic interaction between charged amino acids and the surfactant headgroup has caused the aggregation in the protein-surfactant system.

Interactions of a polyanion with a cationic micelle: comparison of Monte Carlo simulations with experiment

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of polyelectrolyte chain on an oppositely charged micelle was investigated by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. It was demonstrated that the evolution of the adsorption-desorption limits found by Monte Carlo simulations regarding the charge density of the micelle and the salt concentration agreed with the experimental data.
