Effects of adsorption of halide ions and gelatin on solid-liquid interfacial energies of silver halides

Article Abstract:

A model is derived for the specific interfacial energy of the solid-liquid interface under the influence of adsorption. The model is based on the concept of the surface complex of an adsorbate molecule with specific adsorption sites. The adsorption isotherms of silver and halide ions are analyzed. The effects of halide ion adsorption on the specific interfacial energy of Ag Cl, AgBr and AgI particles are also examined based on the Gibbs-Thomson effect.

Interfacial energies of different interfaces under the influence of adsorption

Article Abstract:

Formulations are derived for the specific interfacial energies of various interfaces in liquid-liquid, solid-liquid, solid-gas and liquid gas systems under the influence of adsorption. Differences are shown in the behaviors of ordinary adsorptives and amphiphilic compounds in liquid-liquid and liquid-gas systems. A new concept of vacancies as imaginary matrix molecules of the gas phases is also described for solid-gas and liquid-gas systems.

Formulation of the absolute value of the solid-liquid interfacial energy and experimental collation to silver halide systems

Article Abstract:

A model is derived to determine the absolute value of the solid-liquid interfacial energy to pure spherical and polyhedral particles. The model is based on the fundamental theory of intrinsic specific interfacial energy of a solid-liquid interface without adsorption obtained in an earlier study. Comparison of model results with those from experiments involving silver halide sols also showed good agreement.
