Electrooxidation mechanisms and discharge characteristics of borohydride on different catalytic metal surfaces
Article Abstract:
The electrooxidation behavior of BH4(super -) on electrocatalytic Pt, hydrolytically active Ni, and noncatalytic Au electrodes are examined and a generalized reaction mechanism is proposed to explain the different anodic properties of BH4(super -) on different metal electrodes. On the hydrolytic-inactive Au surface, the anodic reaction of BH4(super -) could proceed through direct electrochemical oxidation, delivering a near 8e discharge capacity.

Effects of hindered internal rotation on packing and conductance of self-assembled monolayers
Article Abstract:
Self-assembled monolayers of 4-thiobiphenyl and 2-thiophenanthrene molecules on Au{111} are probed using scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate the assembled order, to measure the conductance through them. Both molecules exhibit two conductance states, indicating that internal ring rotation has not been required for conductance switching.

Proposed definition of microchemical inhomogeneity and application to characterize some selected miscible/immiscible binary metal systems
Article Abstract:
A new parameter is proposed to quantify the microchemical inhomogeneity for a general multicomponent system and is applied to characterize some selected binary metal systems and Ni-Hf systems. Ab initio calculations are performed to acquire some physical properties for fitting the respective n-body potentials.
