Evidence for non-two-state kinetics in the nucleocapsid protein chaperoned opening of DNA hairpins
Article Abstract:
Single-molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer (SMFRET) was used to study nucleocapsid protein (NC)-induced fluctuations of different DNA hairpins over a broader range of conditions and in more depth. Results reveal a complex mechanism for secondary structure fluctuations with dynamic processes happening over a wide time range that is ~5 to >250 ms and with the involvement of long-lived intermediates.

Conformations and tautomers of 5a,6-anhydrotetracycline
Article Abstract:
The conformations and tautomeric forms of neutral anhydrotetracycline (Atc) in aqueous solution were investigated by ab initio and density functional theory calculations. The calculations suggest that Atc adopts the twisted conformation in solution in the un-ionized form and the extended one as a zwitterion.
