Functional fertility
Article Abstract:
Fertilizers provide growers with a tool to adjust the functional food component of their crops. With more consumers turning to functional foods to enhance health and prevent diseases, an appropriate fertility program will help growers earn an advantageous position to benefit from the trend. The widespread micronutrient deficiencies affecting two billion people around the world will also be alleviated through a thoughtful use of fertilizers and greater understanding of soil fertility.

The role of nutrients
Article Abstract:
Food quality is affected by the type of fertilizer used for a particular commodity crop in the same manner that food quality is affected by soil type, variety and weather. Minerals contained in fertilizers that have an impact in food quality include nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, chloride, zinc, iron, copper and manganese. The continuing goal of crop technology is to produce nutritious healthy food products.

Reaping the benefits of fall fertilization
Article Abstract:
Fertilizer application in the fall is a vital component of crop nutrient management because it is the season when potassium and phosphorous levels in the soil are at their lowest. Some of the benefits of fall fertilizer application include the obtainment of accurate soil tests, lightening spring planting chores, avoidance of compaction, maximization of available nutrients and maintainance of optimum soil nutrient levels.
