Gas-phase conformations of proteolytically derived protein fragments: influence of solvent on peptide conformation
Article Abstract:
The structures of four tryptic peptides are examined using matrix-assisted laser deposition ionization-ion mobility mass spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy and solution-phase hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry. The gas-phase structure of the peptides exhibit a high correlation to the conformational observed by circular dichroism in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol suggesting that the gas-phase structure may be utilized for solution-phase.

Low-energy (3-24 eV) electron damage to the peptide backbone
Article Abstract:
Various researches and studies are conducted to measure the anions desorbed by 3-24 eV electron impact on thin films of formamide and on self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of several Lys amide molecules, which are used as a model of the peptide backbone. The results show that though the sensitivity of the peptide backbone to secondary electrons depends on the chemical environment, the low energy values highly damage it.

Molecular beam studies of the kinetics of the thermal conversion of N2O on Rh(111) single-crystal surfaces
Article Abstract:
The thermal conversion of N2O on Rh(111) single-crystal surfaces is studied using a collimated effusive molecular beam technique coupled with mass spectroscoy detection. The decomposition of pure N2O was determined to occur at temperatures as low as 120 K, to follow first-order kinetics, and to lead to the stoichiometric production of N2(g) and atomic adsorbed oxygen.
