Functionalization and extraction of large fullerenes and carbon-coated metal formed during the synthesis of single wall carbon nanotubes by laser oven, direct current arc, and high-pressure carbon monoxide production methods
Article Abstract:
A method to functionalize the large fullereness by alkyl radicals and to affect a separation from the single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) by extraction of the soluble fullerene derivatives into chloroform is reported. It is found that small amount of carbon-coated metal is also extracted along with the large fullerenes.

Cutting of single-walled carbon nanotubes by ozonolysis
Article Abstract:
A new cutting method for single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) using perfluoropolyether as reactant medium is described. This method uses extensive ozonolysis at room temperature and SWNT was found to be extensively cut after an ozone treatment with a yield of ~80% of the original carbon.
