Investigation of the excited state structure of DCM via ultrafast electronic pump/vibrational probe
Article Abstract:
Time resolved visible pump, infrared probe transient absorption measurements of the solutes 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-(p-(dimethylamino)styryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) and its isotopomer DCM-d, are employed to investigate the dynamics of charge transfer state formation in dimethyl suffoxide (DMSO) and acetonitrile (MeCN). Two stage charge transfer is observed, the first step is an instrument-response-limited charge separation to the dieyanomethylene group, and the second involves a structural evolution of the dimethylamino group.

Carotenoid radical cations as a probe for the molecular mechanism of nonphotochemical quenching in oxygenic photosynthesis
Article Abstract:
Carotenoid radical cation formation is discovered to be a key step for the feedback deexcitation quenching mechanism (qE), a component of nonphotochemical quenching. The spectroscopic properties of carotenoid radical cation and the spectral characteristics of Zea and Vio radical cations in light-harvesting complex II (LHC II) are very important for understanding the qE protection mechanisms.
