Manipulating formation and drug-release behavior of new sol-gel silica matrix by hydroxypropyl guar gum
Article Abstract:
A biocompatible sol-gel silica matrix is developed for the encapsulation of biomolecules by using a novel water-soluble silica precursor, tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)orthosilicates (THEOS), along with a water-soluble polysaccharide derivative, hydroxypropyl guar gum (HPGG). The controlled release of vitamin [B.sub.12] from the sol-gel silica matrixes has shown a strong dependence of the release profile on the amount of introduced HPGG.

Effect of Si[O.sub.2] on relaxation phenomena and mechanism of ion conductivity of [Nafion/{(Si[O.sub.2]).sub.x]} composite membranes
Article Abstract:
The effect of Si[O.sub.2] nanopower on the mechanism of iconic motion and interactions taking place in hybrid inorganic-organic membranes based on Nafion is studied. The proposal that long-range proton charge transfer in [Nafion/{(Si[O.sub.2]).sub.x]} composites takes place due to mechanism involving exchange of the proton between the four water domains, is supported by the study.
