Measuring the force ejecting DNA from phage

Article Abstract:

The way to establish a balance between the force acting to eject DNA from viral capsids and the force resisting its entry into a colloidal suspension that mimics the host cell cytoplasm is discussed. A theoretical analysis is presented that allows a determination of the internal (capsid) pressure by examining the different relations between force and pressure inside and outside the capsid using the experimentally measured position of the force balance.

Diffusion of single star-branched dendrimer-like DNA

Article Abstract:

The study investigates single molecule fluorescence on the diffusion of star-branched polymer dendrimer like DNA (DL-DNA). The results indicate that through single particle tracking that the diffusion coefficient of DL-DNA changes in a nonmonotonic fashion with its increased concentration possibly due to armrest and arm retraction.

Effects of condensing agent and nuclease on the extent of ejection from phage [lamda]

Article Abstract:

The extent to which DNA ejection is incomplete at zero osmotic external pressure when phage is opened with its receptor in vitro is investigated. It is demonstrated that DNA could be 'pulled' out from the capsid by DNase I acting as a DNA binding protein or spermine acting as a DNA condensing agent.
