Mechanism of gold metal ion reduction, nanoparticle growth and size control in aqueous amphiphilic block copolymer solutions at ambient conditions
Article Abstract:
Spontaneous formation and efficient stabilization of gold nanoparticles with an average diameter of 7~20 nm from hydrogen tetrachloroaureate(III) hydrate were achieved in air-saturated aqueous poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymer solutions at ambient temperature in the absence of any other reducing agent. The effects of block copolymer characteristics such as molecular weight, PEO block length, PPO block length, and critical micelle concentration are explored by examining several PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers.

Role of nanoparticle surface in surface-enhanced Raman scattering
Article Abstract:
The role of nanoparticle surface charge in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is examined for the common case of measurements made in colloidal solutions of Ag and Au. Average SERS intensities obtained for several analytes on Ag and Au colloids are correlated with the pH and zeta potential values of the nanoparticle solutions from which they were recorded.

Photofragmentation of phase-transferred gold nanoparticles by intense pulsed laser light
Article Abstract:
Gold nanoparticles with an average diameter of ~20 nm were prepared in an aqueous solution by a wet chemistry method. The effects of solvent properties and surface chemistry on the photofragmentation of the gold nanoparticles are investigated.
