Observation of the excited state of the primary electron donor chlorophyll (P700) and the ultrafast charge separation in the spinach photosystem I reaction center
Article Abstract:
The highly preferential excitation of P700 and the detection of the radical pair of chlorophyll molecules (Chls) with femtosecond time-resolution enable one to observe the primary charge separation of PSI RC with minimal interference by excitation transfer. The measurements based on observed dynamics and a kinetic model of excitation migration suggests the rate constant of the charge separation between P700 and the nearest acceptor chlorophyll td be (0.5-0.8 ps)(super -1).

Beta-carotene to chlorophyll singlet energy transfer in the photosystem I core of the synechococcus elongatus proceeds via the beta-carotene S2 and S1 states
Article Abstract:
The ultrafast excitation transfer dynamics of beta-carotene is described in trimeric photosystem I preparations from synechococcus elongatus. It is estimated that ~70% of initial beta-carotene S2 excitations is transferred to the chlorophylls making the S2 state a major extent responsible for the larger yield of beta-carotene to chlorophyll singlet energy transfer in comparison with the photosystem II core proteins.
