Optical gain from the open form of a photochromic molecule in the solid state
Article Abstract:
Evidence is provided for the line-narrowing from the ultraviolet (UV) photoexcited open form of the photochromic molecule, indolinospiropyran (1',3'-dihydro-1',3',3'-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro [2H-1-benzopyran-2,2'-(2H)-indole]) in the solid state. The results have paved the way for the realization of hybrid devices based on the coupling between photochromic behavior and stimulated emission from conjugated molecules, such as laser optical memories and lasers gated by optical molecular switches.

Ethane-bridged zinc porphyrin dimers in Langmuir-Shafer thin films: Structural and spectroscopic properties
Article Abstract:
The structural and spectroscopic properties of ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers in Langmuir-Schafer (LS) thin films are investigated. Diluting ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers in arachidic acid minimizes the porphyrin aggregation and with ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers exhibiting the anti conformation the LS films become photoresponsive, showing fluorescence emission and triplet-triplet transient absorption.

Metal-enhanced phosphorescence: Interpretation in terms of triplet-coupled radiating plasmons
Article Abstract:
Factors affecting metal-enhanced phosphorescence (MEP), such as distance dependence and silver film morphology are investigated. Results suggest that both singlet and triplet states can couple to surface plasmons and enhance both fluorescence and phosphorescence yields and that MEP can be used to promote triplet-based assays, such as those used in photodynamic therapy.
