Phase structure and luminescence properties of Eu(super 3+)-doped TiO(sub 2) nanocrystals synthesized by Ar/O(sub 2) radio frequency thermal plasma oxidation of liquid precursor mists
Article Abstract:
Ar/O(sub 2) thermal plasma oxidizing mists of liquid precursors containing titanium tetra-n-butoxide and europium(III) nitrate are used for the synthesis of Eu(super 3+)-doped TiO(sub 2) luminescent nanocrystals. The nanopowders emit bright red light on excitation with UV light, confirming the occurrence of nonradioactive energy transfer from the host lattice to Eu ions.

Dependence of charge transfer energy on crystal structure and composition in [Eu.sup.3+]-doped compounds
Article Abstract:
A method for estimating the positions of charge transfer (CT) bands in [Eu.sup.3+]-doped complex crystals is reported. The relationship between the experimental CT energies and calculated environmental factors is established by an empirical formula.
