Photochemically patterned poly(methyl methacrylate) surfaces used in the fabrication of microanalytical devices
Article Abstract:
The photochemical surface modification of poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, microfluidic devices by UV light to yield pendant carboxylic acid surface moieties, is studied. The chemical patterns of carboxylic acid sites formed from the micrometer to millimeter scale by exposure of PMMA through a contact mask, allow for further functionalization of PMMA microdevice surfaces to yield arrays or other structured architectures.

Fabrication and electrical conductivity of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/carbon black (CB) composites: Comparison between an ordered carbon black nanowire-like segregated structure and a randomly dispersed carbon black nanostructure
Article Abstract:
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/carbon black (CB) composites are fabricated using two different mixing methods, such as mechanical mixing and solution mixing of the precursors, followed by compression molding. The electrical properties of the PMMA/CB composites fabricated by the mechanical mixing method are comparable to those obtained with single-wall nanotubes as fillers.

Low-temperature anomalies of two-photon absorption in In(sub 2)O(sub 3) nanocrystals incorporated into PMMA matrixes
Article Abstract:
An experimental investigations of the two-photon absorption diagonal tensor components of the In(sub 2)O(sub 3) nanocrystals versus temperature were carried out. The results determined that, below 40 K, an enhancement of the corresponding two-photon absorption coefficients for the samples with low nanocrystal sizes (below 24 nm) occurred.
