Photochromism of crown ethers with incorporated azobenzene moiety
Article Abstract:
The study determined the kinetics of the thermal cis-trans isomerization in a series of crown ethers containing the azobenzene moiety incorporated into the crowns of various sizes, dissolved in liquid isooctane and in polymer matrixes (PMMA and polystyrene). A comparison of the quantum-chemical calculations with the experimental results revealed that one might exclude the splitting of the UV absorption bands of the trans forms of the molecules under study that resulted from a coexistence of several conformations of these molecules.

Investigating the plasma modification of polystyrene at low ion power densities
Article Abstract:
A new grid-separated, two-chamber low-pressure plasma reactor is developed to study the surface modification of polymeric materials under low ion power density bombardment. It was found that, over the whole available range in ion fluxes, and energies, the O/C ratios did not change with O/C about 0.1 to 0.12 for plasma exposure times of 90s.
