Photoluminescence and electroluminescence of d6 metal-organic conjugated oligomers: correlation of photophysics and device performance
Article Abstract:
The photophysical and electroluminescent device properties of a series of d6 transition metal complexes that feature an oligo(aryleneethynylene) (OAE) 'ligand' is studied. Results of the study indicate that all of the metal-OAEs feature red PL and EL at wavelengths ranging from 600 nm for Ir-2 complex to greater than 850nm in the near-infrared (near-IR) for the Os-2 system. The photophysical data demonstrates that the higher QE of the Ir-2 based device arises due to the large spin-orbit coupling provided by the Ir(III) center, which enhances the probability of electrophosphorescence from the OAE-based 3pi,pi* state.

Limits and advantages of X-ray absorption near edge structure for nanometer scale metallic clusters
Article Abstract:
The significant breakthroughs in the understanding of the physicochemical processes specific to nanometer scale entities can be obtained if the study of the XANES (X-ray absorption near edge structure) part of an absorption spectrum is conducted using a combined full MS and PCA (Principal Component factor Analysis) approach. It is concluded that, the quantitative measurement of the structural parameters coming from the EXAFS analysis constitutes an invaluable starting point for the PCA-FEFF simulation.

Active spatiotemporal control of Arg-Gly-Asp-containing tetradecapeptide organomercaptans on gold with in-plane electrochemical potential gradients
Article Abstract:
The study focuses on characterizing the packing structure variation of alkanethiol gradients, and then developing RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) containing gradients, which are mapped by Fourier transform infrared external reflection spectroscopy (FTIR-ERS). This study has important implications for the study of cellular motility and haptotactic behavior.
