Observation of liquid-crystal-like ferromagnetic behavior in a biological membrane
Article Abstract:
The application of time domain dielectric spectroscopy from 500 kilo Hertz to 1 Giga Hertz and differential scanning calorimetry to bacteriorhodopsin containing purple membrane films is presented. The results display that the oriented purple membrane had a unique liquid-crystal-like ferromagnetic behavior.

Temperature-dependant photophysical properties of a liquid-crystalline random copolyester
Article Abstract:
An investigation of the photophysical characteristics of the liquid-crystalline random copolyester, Vectra A910 is presented. Four phase transitions were observed from an experimental temperature range from -180 to +400 degrees Celsius.
